“Do you use shock collars?”
We get this question a lot, and we’d rather answer it directly than let the internet answer it for us.
We use modern remote training collars as one tool in a complete training system — alongside rewards, leash work, structure, and owner coaching. Today’s remote collars are not the “shock collars” of decades past. We use them at low levels as an attention signal — think of it as a tap on the shoulder your dog can feel from a distance — not as punishment.
Here’s our standard at Sit Means Sit Las Vegas:
You feel it first. At your free evaluation, we put the collar on your hand or arm and show you exactly what your dog will feel, at the exact levels we use. No surprises, no secrets.
It’s an attention tool, not a correction tool. The collar lets us communicate with your dog at a distance and through distraction — which is what makes reliable off-leash freedom possible in a city full of trails, patios, and parks.
It’s never the whole system. Every program combines the collar with reward-based motivation, clear structure, threshold work for reactive dogs, and daily owner lessons. The tool means nothing without the training system around it.
It’s fitted and coached, not handed over. We teach you precisely how, when, and at what level to use every tool — that’s why we come to your home after each training day.
Why we train this way
Most of the dogs we see have already been through treats-only classes that worked in a quiet room and fell apart at the dog park. Our clients come to us for real-world reliability — a dog that listens at Red Rock, on a Summerlin patio, with the doorbell ringing. That level of reliability, especially for reactive and aggressive dogs, requires clear two-way communication in high distraction. That’s what our system delivers, and it’s why we can guarantee results: if your dog isn’t where we agreed by week 4, we keep training at no extra charge.
